About me
Leslie Carol Roberts is a writer, full professor, and interdisciplinary educator passionate about storytelling, community design, and the power of creativity to address urgent global challenges. She is President of the Northern California Fulbright Association board and has designed and taught graduate and undergraduate curricula at the intersection of humanities, design, and emerging technologies. Her work as a creative writer and scholar includes peer-reviewed essays and books as well as lectures and panels at global literary events and festivals. As a Fulbright Fellow in Aotearoa/New Zealand, Roberts conducted pioneering research in the then-emerging field of Antarctic humanities at Gateway Antarctica in Christchurch. She is the author of The Entire Earth and Sky: Views on Antarctica, the first Fulbright project of its kind, which continues to be studied internationally and has led to talks across the U.S., Japan, France, the U.K., and the Maldives. Roberts co-founded ECOPOESIS with architect Adam Marcus, a creative forum that brings together professionals from across disciplines to use design thinking and storytelling as tools for navigating climate anxiety. As a journalist and photographer, Roberts has worked on global assignments coverage of the Millennial Trains Project, a cross-country youth leadership initiative featured on Fast Company. A graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Iowa’s Nonfiction Writing MFA program, Roberts brings a global, interdisciplinary lens to education. Her teaching—at institutions including California College of the Arts and San José State University—centers on helping students alike tell their stories with clarity, power, and heart.
