About me
Jean-Baptiste Phou is a French-Cambodian writer, director, and multidisciplinary artist. He is the author of Coming Out of My Skin (Seagull Books, 2023), which he adapted for the stage, and 80 mots du Cambodge (L’Asiathèque, 2023). His writing explores memory, identity, diaspora, queerness, and the legacies of Cambodian history across languages and forms.
He began his artistic career as an actor before turning to writing and directing for the stage, with works including Cambodge, me voici! and L’Anarchiste. His documentary La Langue de ma mère won awards at the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas and Cinemasio. In 2026, he was selected for the BIOTOPE international playwright program and for a Villa Albertine residency in San Francisco.
