About me
Maria van Lieshout was born and raised in the Netherlands. She has written and illustrated fifteen picture books for kids. Her historical graphic novel Song of a Blackbird, about a female artist in the Amsterdam resistance during WWII, was inspired by events that affected her own family.
The book received five starred reviews, made several best of the year lists (PW, Kirkus, Horn Book, SLJ), was awarded the Michael Printz Award Honor and it was longlisted for the National Book Award.
Maria lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and their son.
