About me
Wendy Johnson is a physician, community activist and writer whose career includes stints scaling up HIV treatment in Mozambique, overseeing an urban public health department in Cleveland, and directing a community clinic in Santa Fe. She currently practices family and addiction medicine in Northern New Mexico for El Centro Family Health and consults with community clinics in Appalachian Ohio. Her first book, Kinship Medicine: Cultivating Interdependence to Heal the Earth and Ourselves, was published in summer 2025 by North Atlantic Books. She is a two-time TEDx speaker and her writing has appeared in The Nation, The Boston Review, McSweeney’s, and in newspapers in Seattle, Cleveland and Santa Fe among other publications. Dr. Johnson grew up along the shores of Lake Erie but now resides outside of Santa Fe in a community that includes two dogs, many human neighbors, a few bears, and countless coyotes and cottonwoods.
